Why Rural America
EMD Health Centers Inc vision is to address the need of Rural Specialty Outpatient Care.
The number of Specialty physicians in US are about 2.5 times the number of Primary care physicians, but they are mostly located in Metropolitan Areas. Less than 3% of Specialty Physician practice in the rural areas which has about 19% of the US population. They are rarely present in small towns of around five thousand population.
The actual need for Specialty physicians in the rural areas is higher than Urban areas due to older age of rural population, higher use of tobacco, poor diet, obesity and longer distances to see a physician.
The likelihood of a lot of Specialty Physician practicing in small rural areas by the traditional methods is not practical due to population size and lifestyle available to physician and their family. The online video visit on phone/computer without specialty equipment or a technician applying is useful only for simple ailments which can cover only a subset of primary care, leave alone the specialty care.
How Patient is Examined
EMD will address this market using High end Medical Cart with variety of Medical Devices applied by a medical technician on to the patient.
This system is connected to Remotely located Specialty Physician who can the hear the sounds, see the high-resolution video of the oral cavity, nose, ear and skin. The electronic stethoscope which can convey amplified heart, lung, bowel sounds. An ultrasound probe which can estimate the size of the heart, liver and detect fluid accumulation in the body cavities.
Special attachments are available for Gynecological, Cardiac and Eye examination for remotely located specialist for evaluation of the patients. The examination of a patient from a virtual clinic with real time video conferencing and equipment like high resolution cameras, electronic stethoscope applied by a trained medical assistant under the supervision of a remote physician is accepted as complete examination by state medical Boards, Medicare and insurance companies. It is also HIPPA compliant.
This concept of Virtual Clinic is based on Patent Number 8,589,177 and Patent Number 7,412396.
Effect of Covid 19
The COVID-19 pandemic has created the need for social distancing to reduce the risk of catching the Coronavirus. This has increased the necessity of Remote Work online.
The growth in remote work, devastating effects of pandemic in high density urban areas and cost of living in Urban and Suburban metropolitan Areas will reverse the urbanization of America. This will manifest into reduction of office sizes and corresponding staff reduction, even in case of some physicians as they can work remotely. This is going to be more pronounced in physicians as they are generally older than other professions and require more closer contact with the lot of different patients regularly. The effect of the Coronavirus on older people or people with Comorbidities like Cancer, Kidney, Liver, Diabetes, Heart Conditions, Pulmonary diseases etc. is devastating.
We have a pending Patent Application Number 14/985,193 which relates to a method of developing an individual patient based database following multiple years of added tests and brief consultations with variety of specialists based on racial profile, family history, life style, location and occupation before the onset of symptoms or definitive test results.
